Pastels on Gatorfoam surface

"Winter Wonderland Landscape" - January 2012 - Pastel

On January 22, 2012 I attended a class with Karen Margulis on "Painting Snow in the Landscape."   We prepared a painting surface on Gatorfoam.   The Gatorfoam was cut to size.   The surface was primed with acrylic gesso.   We used diluted Golden fine pumice gel with water.   Then we mixed in pumice power.   On this painting I tinted the board with a deep burgundy acrylic paint.   I then painted the board with the pumic mix using diagonal brush strokes.   After the board dried I painting the Winter Landscape painting.    The bursh stokes show through the pastels and create an interesting texture.
